“Leon's enduring enthusiasm and encouragement are definitely responsible for keeping me focussed, despite the enormous hurdles of learning something outside my comfort zone. I'm beginning to understand the mystery and magic of how music is constructed - and joining the "dots" so to speak - This course has turned out to be an unexpected joy and adventure!”

Frequently Asked Questions

VIRTUOSO Piano Lesson courses and live lessons are designed specifically for 2 types of students:
1. PIANO YEARNERS: Adult learners that are completely new to the piano that have wanted to play piano for many years, but have not had the opportunity to begin taking lessons yet.
2. PIANO RETURNERS: Adults returning to piano lessons that have not played piano or read music in a long time.
No prior musical knowledge is required to fully participate in any of our piano lessons.
-
The goal of our group lessons every week is to learn ways to develop and strengthen our intentional practice habits.
This means we will discuss any challenges that may be blocking your growth at the piano and work through exercises to eliminate those challenges.
Outside of live online classes, online lessons are available to learn new material at your own pace, anytime.
-
Ideally, you will have all the following items, but they are NOT required to participate fully in lessons:
1. A computer, tablet, or phone with a camera and microphone so you can participate in the live lessons via Zoom. An iPad (or tablet) is the recommended device to use as you can simply place it on your piano during the lesson, but any other device with a camera and microphone will work.
2. A digital keyboard with at least 49 keys, but 88 keys are recommended as that is the standard number of keys on full-size pianos or an acoustic piano.
3. The ability to print the course handouts.
-
The only expectation is that you have a desire to learn and an interest to make improvements over time.
You won’t be required to practice between sessions any more than you desire to and you won’t be asked to perform or do anything on-the-spot in front of the group unless you volunteer to.
There is no requirement to attend the live sessions, as each will be recorded for playback at any time. All questions will be answered from live participants during the live lessons and any follow-up answers will be posted to our group discussion board.
During the days between weekly live lessons, you are encouraged to post questions to the instructor or the group for help working through any challenges you are experiencing.
-
Regular weekly one-hour group lessons are hosted M-F, from 10 am - 2 pm in the Central Timezone (Chicago, USA).
Scheduling flexibility for students is always taken into account, and alternate lesson times are added, as needed, to accommodate all current VIRTUOSO student's schedules.
